From illustrating to scratchboards
Ben Baret is a French artist living in Brussels. After a few years illustrating books, drawing comics, painting and engraving for exhibitions, he discovered NFTs in march 2021. Since then, he spends all his time creating NFTs. He’s mainly using scratchboards, a black panel that you scratch with a scalpel to make the white layer below appear. This medium allows to go very deeply into details, and the concentration required puts him in a kind of meditative state that he loves.
His most recent series is called « Restructured Portraits ». First, the portrait is drawn realistically. Then, it is split into different parts. Each part then becomes a different texture or element that relates to the personality of the character drawn. Finally, he engraves the scratchboard. Each piece takes between 40 and 60 hours of work
